Anwil again was too strong

Too many turnovers and low efficiency from under the basket didn't allow PGE's players to win in the second match of the quarterfinals in Włocławek. Anwil defeated Zgorzelec 86:72. On Tuesday, the competition will be transferred to PGE Turów Arena.

The hosts started with a strong impact and after the Ivana Almeida dunk they managed 8:2. PGE Turow, however, led to a draw mainly due to the high shooting form of Cameron Ayers. The American in the first quarter scored 13 points, getting three times from a distance. When one more precise throw from behind the 6.75m line added Jacek Jarecki, the black-and-green team even managed 29:25.

Anwi quickly mastered the situation. Assist for the assist was given by Quinton Hosley, and Jarosław Zyskowski and Josip Sobin exchanged excellent American passes for points. This way, after 20 minutes of competition, Anwil led 49:37 and in the second half could control the safe lead. The valiant heart of Tur could still be seen, with Stefan Balmazović, for example, with three accurate threes in a row, but the 20-point down earned by the host was no longer manageable.

- I would like to express my respect for Anwil. They play great basketball, hard to defend. They were better and deserved this victory. At the same time, however, I am extremely proud of the effort of my players. If we give up, we could lose by 30 or 40 points. We've improved a few items compared to match 1, including free throws and rebounds, but admit that our turnovers killed us today - commented coach Michael Claxton.

It was the excessive number of turnovers (17) and the low effectiveness of the game (38.2%) that were the biggest problem of PGE Turow basketball players.

- Our losses and a bad return to defense have proved to be crucial today. We must eliminate all our imperfections with fight and character. It may not have worked out for us today, but play-off is a series. We are going back to Zgorzelec, to our home, where we once won this season with Anwil - added Jacek Jarecki.

The quarter-final competition will be transferred to PGE Turów Arena already on Tuesday. Match 3 at 20.00.
