New Years's show the power of character

Written by

PGE Turow Zgorzelec basketball players slowly started after Christmas and New Year break. Although the black-and-greens were losing by a difference of 15 points, thanks to the strength of their characters, they returned to the game and won an important victory over the Czarni Slupsk 82:81.

The match inaugurating the basketball 2018 year in Zgorzelec didn't follow the hosts' thoughts from the beginning. Losses, inefficiency and dissociation in the attack, and the lack of aggressive defensive quickly allowed Czarni to take wind in their sails. The guests won the second quarter 33:15 and when this part of the game with a precise throw from Drew Drewson, the advantage of Czarni was already 15 points (55:40).

- I knew this match would be tough. Personally, I don't like such long breaks between games. It is difficult to catch the rhythm later, especially since we played a tragic match in Radom earlier and we knew that now we have to get up. There was a bit of rest, then we had really good training days, but we couldn't get into our rhythm. It was not our basketball, no one was aggressive, everyone slept a bit - he commented on what happened on the floor captain of PGE Turow, Bartosz Bochno.

- It was a difficult match for us to find the right game rhythm. In the first half, our defense effort was disappointing. We had problems with fouls, so we had to rotate the squad and try different settings on the pitch - coach Michael Claxton was analyzing.

The team he ran caught up with his rivals less than 7 minutes before the end and they didn't give the minimum lead anymore. A serious injection of offensive energy was given by Kacper Borowski (17 points, 5/7 from the game) and Roderick Camphor (19 points, 5/7 for three!), And Brad Waldow who started to use his advantage under the hoop (10 points, 7 rebounds). Czarni could still win the victory from Zgorzelec, but the last shoot from the corner of the pitch was missed by Dominic Artis.

- We didn't have the consequences because we had some things to do, and in the third quarter we stopped them and hence the return to the team match from Zgorzelec. This last action also had a slightly different look. It turned out that Dominic threw the uncrossed, but it wasn't such a normal throw and unfortunately he missed it - admitted Czarni coach, Marek Łukomski.

- I am proud that the players have found the right way to victory. They stayed together and remained calm - Claxton coach was happy, and Captain Bartosz Bochno added:

- The most important thing is that we woke up, we found our rhythm of the game, we rose from minus 15 and we won the victory. As they say: winners don'tjudge, so let's enjoy the two points. We have to take lessons from this match and go to Warsaw for another important and difficult clash.
